mock rewrite : Merlin

in this extract we are shown a variety of different class' status and integrity . this clip demonstrates this by the use of the micro features which include : camera , misc en scene , sound and editing.

in the first scene we see Merlin sneaking around in a room in a mansion searching for a book. the misc en scene in this scene is that it shows the audience that the people that live in this mansion are at the top of the hierarchy, and Merlin isn't near the top, hence the sneaking around. During this scene when he finds what he sis looking for, a women spots him and walks into the room. As this women is displayed through a sideways panning shot, dramatic an horrific music is played in the background. this may indicate that this women is a potential villain or controls the place that merlin is in. When merlin is caught by the antagonist the camera is pointed towards the mirror which presents the women's true self. Because of this, it shows the audience who the women is and even though she is a top class citizen, with a high status , she is also a soon to be villain disguising as a young woman.

After this scene , Merlin is walking outside and walks past what seems like royalty or a few individuals that have a higher status than Merlin. Merlin calls him a prat and the protagonist states that Merlin cannot talk to him like that, how ever he expresses it in a way that if Merlin talks to him like that he can get arrested. This story is used in mediaeval times as it is shown in the misc en scene as there are people in armour walking around, in fancy old dresses and they fight with medieval weapons. The male character challenges merlin to a fight of some sorts with the weapon that the boy in the armour is most used to. Whilst this fight is happening, comic style music is going on in the background. Quick cuts are used to show different effects and their fast paced action, however, some parts of this scene are in slow motion to show how powerful the weapons and the people fighting are. Towards the end of this fight scene when Merlin gets distracted by his mentor, the other male character hits him with a broom three times. This is portrayed in a comical way as whilst he was hitting Merlin, three comical sounds would be played in the background.

Class and status is finally getting realised after the fight when the male protagonist states to Merlin that there i something about him that is special and he pretty much has a chance to improve his status no longer as the poor boy, but the magician.

in the final scene , he is talking to his mentor which i shown in a medium shot, at first. whilst they are talking about how he should be using magic for good and not for fights and stupid acts, a close up shot is used and Merlin states that if he can't use magic , then he'd rather die.
